Organ Pipes and Pinnacle Track works

The City of Hobart is rejuvenating the iconic Organ Pipes and Pinnacle tracks on kunanyi/Mount Wellington and will be closing tracks between December 2017 and June 2018. See map for details.

The next stage of works will NOT generally involve closure of the Pinnacle Road.

Track closures/walking access

2 January  – February 2018

Permanent closures: Upper Sawmill and Organ Pipes tracks closed from the Zig Zag Track junction for approximately 900 metres towards The Chalet. No walking access.

Short-term track closures for helicopter operations: Organ Pipes Track, Upper Sawmill Track, Zig Zag Track, Pinnacle Track, old hotel site and all tracks and roads leading into the site. Helicopter operation day notified on City of Hobart webpage after 3 pm the day before. When not closed for helicopter operations, walking access to the pinnacle from the old hotel site via the Pinnacle and Zig Zag tracks.

February/March – June 2018
Permanent closures: Pinnacle Track closed.

Short-term track closures for helicopter operations: Pinnacle Track, Zig Zag Track, old hotel site and all tracks and roads leading into the site. Helicopter operation day notified on City of Hobart webpage after 3 pm the day before. When not closed for helicopter operations, walking access to the pinnacle is available along Lenah Valley track and up the Sawmill Track, or from The Chalet, then along the Organ Pipes and Zig Zag tracks.
